CLEFT LIP AND PALATE AWARENESS MONTH

OCTOBER 2021

Did you know that there is one baby every 3 minutes worldwide (1 in 700 live births) that are born with cleft lip/palate?

It can usually be diagnosed at 20-week anomaly scan during pregnancy but often not detected until the baby is born. The way to get around it is by surgery and we deeply empathize the ray of distressing emotions the parents undergone through.

Therefore, we truly applaud the effort from the Cleft Lip and Palate Association Malaysia (CLAPAM) to organize the awareness month. In honour of this and of course all year round, we aim to reduce stigma, improve our understanding towards this condition and fully support those who walked the path.

In fact, our very own annual run @clapcharityrun is a tribute towards the cleft community. Follow them to keep in touch when this activity resume. Supporting this run means supporting the cleft community. 💜

WORLD CAVITY FREE FUTURE DAY 2021

14th October 2021

The COVID-19 Pandemic has affected us all and for many of us this means our oral health has suffered. This may be due to lack of access to care, due to teams being re-focused, dental practices closed, or through a personal desire to limit contact with others.

For WCFFDay 2021, the oral care teams around the world run local campaigns that re-engage their patients and the public with their oral health. By breaking down any barriers in their local communities, encouraging the public back to their oral health team and providing them with the resources to look after their oral health at home, aiming to send the message to help everyone keep cavity-free.

ORAL CANCER AWARENESS WEEK - 1.jpg

MOUTH CANCER AWARENESS WEEK

7th - 13th October 2021

"Until I was diagnosed with mouth cancer, I'd never heard of it". It is truly unfortunate that not much people are aware of how oral cancer can seep into one's life. Far too many cases are caught in the later stages - stage III and IV. This not only significantly truncate one's chances of beating the disease, but also reduces their quality of life post treatment. Let us all stand together in the fight of oral cancer.
